A Raisin in the sun
"Once upon a time freedom used to be life—now it's money."
- Lena Younger

Quick Summary
A Raisin in the Sun, by Lorraine Hansberry portrays the lives of the Younger Family. The Youngers are an African-American family who live on the South Side of Chicago in the 1950s.

The whole premise of the play is that the poor Younger family receive a cheque of $10 000 and the protagonist, Walter Lee Younger, wishes to invest all of the money into a liquor store. Meanwhile the rest of the family has other dreams to fulfill with the money. Mama wants to buy a house in a white neighbourhood and Beneatha needs money for tuition.

Mama buys a house and gives Walter the remaining money as long as he leaves some for Beneatha's tuition. Walter gives all the money to his friend Willy to invest in a liquor store. However, Willy runs away with the money and leaves the Youngers in disbelief.

The Youngers move into the white neighbourhood despite attempts to prevent them from moving in, which eventually show Walter's maturity.
Why is walter Considered a Modern Hero?
Walter Lee Younger is considered a modern hero because of his fight to regain his place in society. He and his family are discriminated because of their ethnicity, even when they are capable of the same things as everyone else (Beneatha needing money for a higher education).
He is just a common man. He can either abide the invisible rules society sets for him, or he can choose to fight against society itself. He chooses to fight for his dignity. Even against the masses, Walter attempts to become a business man to finally end his career of driving a white man around.

When his plans go awry, the Youngers still have to decide if they want to move into a white neighbourhood. The moment Walter confronts Mr. Linder and declines his offer is the moment Walter becomes a hero. He may not have achieved his dream, but moving into the neighbourhood as the first black family paves the way and makes it easier for each subsequent black family. Someone had to take the leap and do it first, which happened to be Walter.

Will Smith has played many lead roles where he was a struggling black man in a cruel world so it would be nothing new to him, the most popular being the "Pursuit of Happiness". With his experience and tremendous acting he would play a great leading role as Walter.
Lena Younger

Martin Lawrence As "big Mama"
Big Mama is the definition of what a African-American mother would act and just for the fact of the resemblance of both Big Mama and Lena Younger show that it would be a perfect fit. Nobody else would be able to pull it off as well as Big Mama.
Beneatha Younger

Taraji P. Henson
She has already played many roles that required her to be a independent women. That is what Beneatha is, she is a women pursuing a degree in university which not many women did at the time.

Though Kevin is not a child, he is very short and would play excellent as a little bit of comedic relief in stressful scenes of the movie.
Ruth Younger

Regina Hall
Regina has played many roles where she was the needy and arrogant wife.
Joseph Asagai

chadwick boseman
Chadwick played an amazing lead role as the Black Panther and his African accent was also top notch so he would be a great fit for Joseph Asagai.
Mr. Karl Lindner

Owen Wilson
Owens has a very funny unique voice that always sounds nice even if he is threatening someone. Mr. Lindner is a very passive aggressive guy.
Bobo

Chris tucker
Out of everyone, Chris is the one person you want telling you that your friend has stolen all their money and ran away.
Willy Harris

50 cent
Though Willy never makes an appearance in the play, if he did, 50 Cent would fit the role perfect because he looks like a shady person.
George Murchison

Jamie Foxx
Jamie can always pull off the rich sophisticated man just like he did in the adaptation of Annie.
Mrs. Johnson

Whoopi Goldberg
Whoopi is the type of person you would get advice from but never listen to them.
