The Education System
Are we ready to knock on the ivory towers?
Are
We Prepared?
The issue of underemployment is caused by universities.

Universities are producing a surplus of degrees when they're aren't enough jobs suited for those degrees. For example, let's say a company requires 100 people with degrees in science, but there are over 1000 of those students. 900 degrees are either being wasted by unemployment or jobs that do not require that specialized skill set. If someone with a PhD is working at a fast food restaurant, they are underemployed.

These students believe that completing university will guarantee them a job, however that is not the case.
The Closing of the North American Mind
Universities have inadvertently killed the value of a diploma. Students are entering post-secondary institutions without the ability, experiences, nor the information to make rational decisions. Universities coddle this by allowing students to believe truth is relative. These students are too nice, they do not question other peoples’ beliefs, resulting in not being able to develop the ability to think critically. If people are too open, their minds are closed. These people become incurious to real distinctions instead of trying to find their own answers. Those who cannot think for themselves will eventually be the reason for a failing democracy.

“An open-door policy doesn't do much for a closed mind.” - Bob Nelson
Many Grade 12 students enter university or college without knowing what to expect and we decided to inform students to give them a little taste of the post-secondary life.
30 Credits all online?
In class, we were made aware that in the near future, the Ontario government plans to have their secondary school students complete all 30 of their credits required for an OSSD (Ontario Secondary School Diploma) through eLearning.
Needless to say this is a terrible idea.

-
The first thing wrong with this is that they are making the assumption that we would rather learn online than in person.
-
Some students may prefer to learn online, but I doubt it's the majority.
-
Many students need the face-to-face assistance and discipline to succeed in school.
-
Everyone has different learning styles, an online education cannot cater to everyone
-
It completely removes any social interaction between peers, our generation will be comprised of adults who cannot function in society
-
No more extracurricular activities
-
Unable to take any sort of Physical Education class
-
Parents would not want their children to stay home 24/7
